The National AIDS Trust have adopted a UK World AIDS Day theme titled HIV: REALITY and in Staffordshire Buddies we have adopted the campaign slogan "Let's get real" to build upon this theme.
In the UK most people diagnosed with HIV can live with it as a manageable condition. However, when we asked people living with HIV who use our services what the consequences of having HIV can be it was clear there are still plenty of reasons why people should avoid getting it. In our campaign we want to get over the message that HIV is still a serious condition and that however good HIV treatments have become we still have no cure and no vaccine. We want people to be concerned enough about the consequences of getting HIV to think twice about sexual risk taking behaviour. We also want people to recognise the scale of the HIV epidemic and to be aware that it remains a global health issue of tremendous proportions.
To get these messages over we have produced a poster with the message...
33 million people living with HIV worldwide
over 80,000 live in the UK
at least 500 are in Stoke & Staffordshire
No cure...
No vaccine...
No worries..?
The poster is complemented by a postcard with similar wording and a set of four posters featuring quotes from people talking about the consequences of having HIV.
You can download posters and other campaign materials by clicking here. Alternatively, please give us a call and we will post stuff out to you.
