World AIDS Day - Listen, Learn and Live!

Why do we need to?

  • Because in 1998 the UK saw the largest increase in HIV infection since records began
  • Because there still is no cure
  • Because AIDS knows no barriers
  • Because 16,000 people are living with HIV in the UK
  • Because no-one is immune

This year’s theme for UNAIDS focuses on communication with children and young people. Listen to children and young people - talk to them about what they feel and their experiences of issues to do with HIV, sex and sexuality.

Learn from one another respect, support and ways to prevent HIV infection

Live in a world where the rights of children and young people are protected and those living with HIV do not experience discrimination and hardship because of their HIV status.

For all of the above reasons and many more, Staffordshire Buddies is delighted to work with MUSICAID to raise awareness of the HIV epidemic and the needs of those affected in Staffordshire, by supporting the two concerts in Stoke on the 25th November and Lichfield Cathedral on the 1st December, World AIDS Day itself, particularly as MUSICAID is working with local children and schools to make these events happen.

We recognise the growing individual needs of the families, with whom we work, affected and infected with HIV who will benefit from the profits from these events. Many cannot be open about their illness for fear of harassment, discrimination and breaches of confidentiality. We look forward to a new after school club to support children affected giving their parents a break and the children a chance to share experiences in a safe environment.

We would like to thank MUSICAID and in particular Maurice Greenham, its chair, the children and teachers of all the local schools together with the sponsors of MUSICAID, for working with us to raise funds to provide confidential help and support for all people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS. If you feel you can help us fundraise or provide other support please contact us.
