In May members of the team went to meet Jon Ashmore, owner of Pastiche Bistro in Hanley, to discuss the possibility of holding a Charity Fundraising Evening with a percentage of the cost of meal going to Buddies. Jon’s generosity meant that the entire £10 for the 3 course meal was donated towards the fundraising event.

Local and national companies donated to the prizes raffle, which included a Goodmans CD HiFi, overnight accommodation at the Princess Hotel, Manchester, a portable colour TV, plus many other excellent prizes.

The months between May and August flew by, and volunteers, service users and staff pulled together resources to make the evening a success. And it was, 62 people filled the restaurant, including the Lord Mayor of Stoke on Trent.

The food was excellent, the wine flowed and the generosity of everyone meant we raised over…..

£1,129 ! !

This substantial amount is being divided between the Staffordshire Support Fund (70%), that relies totally on public donations to provide financial help for those infected by HIV and 30% will go to a Children's Occupational Therapy Department at Oshakati Hospital, Namibia. With the money they will be able to buy the much needed wheelchairs, basic therapeutic material, such as art materials and books for children who are affected by HIV, many who have become orphans after both parents have died from AIDS. Andrew Colclough who went over to Namibia earlier this year will keep us informed of how the money is benefiting these children

I’d like to thank everyone who contributed to the evening, especially the Events Team and Keith for his wicked sense of humour and keeping me laughing.

Dear Friends,
I am sorry that I am unable to be with you tonight but unfortunately European Parliament business dictates that I have to be in Brussels.
I would however like to send you all my best wishes for an enjoyable evening. An evening which I sincerely hope will raise the much needed money for the many excellent services provided by Staffordshire Buddies for people affected by HIV both at home and abroad.
Staffordshire buddies provide a shining example of what can be done to improve the quality of life of people living with HIV. An example which hopefully can be replicated throughout the UK.

All good wishes.
