Bach Flower Remedies are a form of complementary therapy often prescribed by practitioners in other fields like homeopathy, naturopathy and aromatherapy. As this form of therapy is soon to be offered by Staffordshire Buddies, Theresa Hammond has written us a short introduction….

Edward Bach trained as a doctor. He qualified at University College Hospital in the early 1920’s. He eventually gave up work as a doctor. He devoted years to finding the Bach flower remedies. He wanted to treat the whole person and not concentrate on their symptoms. The thirty-eight flower remedies work to change the emotions. He tried to treat all emotions, even vague ones such as: honeysuckle is for people who live in the past.

During a consultation there is a chance to talk about how you feel. Once the main emotions are identified a combination of remedies is made for use at home. Four drops are taken orally four times a day. As you change, your ‘recipe’ is altered over the weeks.

Some people have heard of ‘Rescue Remedy’. This is a remedy that Doctor Bach made using five different remedies. This is thought to help in dealing with shock, such as receiving bad news. It is settling and is even used by actors to calm stage fright.

All remedies are made from plants. A small amount of Brady is used as a preservative. Remedies are not thought to react with medication.
