Staffordshire Buddies big event this year was a sponsored parachute jump. Two very brave people agreed to tandem jump from a very small aircraft from 10,000ft.

Russell, volunteer of Staffordshire Buddies and John Wain (aka Ruby) proprietor of The Club arrived at Tilstock Airfield on August 11th to undertake their challenge. Ruby, queen of the drag queens, arrived in true splendour, sporting a very tight, very short red dress, teamed with a black cloak with fluffy collar and cuffs!! With full make-up but minus a wig, he definitely caught the eye of many of the instructors and no doubt each one of them was wondering who would be chosen to be strapped to this vision in red. Russell arrived with family and friends looking cool as a cucumber and eager to get in the air. Unfortunately, after waiting for a couple of hours it was decided that due to poor weather conditions the jump would have to be postponed to Friday 14th September.

Luckily weather conditions were fine that day, and a group of us waved them fond farewell as they climbed into the aircraft. Twenty minutes later, as we all looked up to the sky we saw the parachutes come swaying down. Both of them landed safely, with huge smiles on their faces.

During the months leading up to this event, we had a prize raffle. Many local business' donated prizes. Money was also donated from Siemens Care & Share Team who supports local charities. Their employees give a minimum donation of £1 per month, this amount is then matched by the company. This money together with a donation from Kent, Jones & Done solicitors helped towards our publicity costs.

We raised just over £1,500 and together with the publicity we got from local newspapers and national magazines, the event was a success. All the money raised will go directly to our Support Fund which provides grants to clients in need of financial help.
