I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself as Andrew's successor. I am aware that Andrew will be an extremely hard act to follow but with your help and support, I'm sure I can carry on his good work. I am proud and excited at the challenges ahead of me. Before I waffle on too much about ambitions, let me tell you a little about myself.I have been living and playing out in Manchester for the past 11 years. My life's loves are my cat, Frankie, a good night out, nice wine and a very special person in my life. I have done a little bit of everything from speech therapy, to looking after children in care, to running a legal advice centre in Salford. Lots of my free time has been dedicated to voluntary work with and on behalf of people with HIV/AIDS. I have cajoled money out of the drug companies, challenged discrimination, organised demonstrations, dealt with press and even worked in partnership with politicians! But always remained on the outside of what could be called the AIDS industry. Now I am on the inside looking out and I hope to be able to meet the challenge that you all have set me in moving Buddies forward into 2000. Only you will be able to tell me if I am successful or not. Don't hesitate to let me know. I look forward to meeting you all very soon after starting on the 18th October Janine |
