HIV FORUM
The latest meeting of the Forum was on the 4th March1999. This was a well attended meeting which dealt with the following issues:

HIV/AIDS Community Conference Report – The results of this report suggested that the names and roles of key HIV service professionals be listed and circulated as widely as possible. It also highlighted the need for common standards of confidentiality for statutory and voluntary organisations around HIV and stated that agencies needed to be informed about each others services.

Children and families A paper about the training needs for those working with families and children was discussed. The pros and cons regarding Barnados, the Dove Project and Douglas Macmillan projects were debated as were Community Paediatric Nurses. This important area will continue to be explored.

The training needs of professionals working in the mental health field was talked about which lead on to a dicsussion about problems of HIV in relation to brain impairment and the implications of new therapies. Problems about filling doset boxes flagged up the need for someone from Pharmacy to be invited to attend the HIV Forum. Some effort will also be made to encourage the attendance of a GP representative. Perhaps the promised return of a few sandwiches at future meetings might help!

The allocation of HIV funds for 1999/2000 has not yet been made because the Central Government allocation is yet still not known.
