Welcome Scott!!

We're pleased to introduce our new Gay Men's HIV Health Promotion Officer at our MesMen project in South Staffordshire; Scott Ormerod.

Scott co-ordinates the outreach team and has responsibility for maintaining and developing HIV Health Promotion services targeting Gay Bisexual & other Men who have sex with Men. He holds a national professional qualification in Youth and Community Work and has been a Youth Worker for Lancashire County Council. Scott has worked in many different settings including outdoor education, centre based work and detached youth work. In addition, he has been a rock climbing instructor with young people and has experience of teaching people with special needs including young and old clients from MENCAP & the SENSE Organization. Finally, Scott was involved in the Cave Rescue Organisation in the Yorkshire Dales.

Scott began working in the HIV sector in 1996 as a part time sessional outreach worker for Yorkshire MESMAC and has since gained a vast knowledge and experience of Needs & Evidence based HIV Health Promotion work in both low HIV prevalence rural areas and high HIV prevalence urban settings.
Scott has previously worked for East Surrey Health Authority as Health Promotion Development Worker for Gay & Bisexual Men, as well as having experience in both one to one advocacy and advisory work and in facilitating groups with various age groups in numerous settings such as HM Prisons, Police, Local Authorities, Primary Care Agencies, Outreach in Saunas, Beaches & Bars & Internet Chat Rooms.

Prior to joining the MESMEN team Scott managed both sessional workers & volunteers as Gay men's Community Worker for the Terrence Higgins Trust in Brighton.
