The New Vic has an exciting spring season with “Ham” (26 Jan - 17 Feb) a comedy by Mark Chatterton followed by “Pat and Margaret” (26 Feb - 17 Mar) a bitter sweet comedy by Victoria Wood. “Privates On Parade” by Peter Nichols completes the season (20 Apr - 12 May). This play is definitely not recommended for the easily offended and promises to be very, very funny and seriously rude. See you there then! In between these productions are all kinds of entertainments including the Little Angel Theatre’s production of “Cindermouse” (20-23 Feb) pantomime humour and puppet action for all school age children. For one night only you can see Humphrey Lyttleton and his band (1 Feb),John Suchet, accompanied by musicians, telling of the life and times of Beethoven (28 Feb) and the concert cellist Ralph Kirshbaum (15 Mar). Then, week commencing 19 March brings 60’s night (20 Mar) with the company that brought “Itchycoo Park” and “My Generation” to the New Vic; “Saints & Sinners Night” with Edward Fox and Polly James (21 Mar); Zimbabwe’s song and dance company “ “Black Umfosoli” (22 Mar), evening with Roy Hattersley (23 Mar) and the Jaqcues Loussier Trio on 24 March. Ballet Gwent performs “Romeo and Juliet” on 3 May and even that isn’t all the New Vic has to offer next season. A special mention must be made of New Vic Borderlines, which takes theatre into local communities and has already worked with 7,500 local people. They will be at the New Vic on 26 April For full details of these and other exhibitions and events at the New Vic, phone the box office on 01782 717962. Billy Elliot Recently released film directed by Stephen Daldry with Jamie Bell in the title role and Julie Walters as a tough, no nonsense but sympathetic & loving dance teacher. Reviews & comments: “This is by far the best movie you will see all year….A fabulous cast of characters complimented by brilliant direction…."Jamie Bell portrays Billy Elliot giving a truly astonishing performance…” - Kay Pasa New York “…Billy juggles the piping-hot boiled eggs. He catches the toast as it leaps out of the toaster. There is rhythm in every fibre. And it is this energy of his that fires the film like the pilot light in a boiler...” - Alexander Walker,The Evening Standard “The cast is excellent and the point inspiring – be yourself and bring your gift to the world, no matter what…. This is a film about how art, music, dance and freedom smash down walls and prejudices….” - Matthew Ignofo, NJ, USA |
