Health Promotion - Young People

SPACE LGBTQ Youth Group provides a safe place to meet for information, advice, and support, focusing on the following key issues:

  • Sexuality
  • Coming Out
  • Identity and self image
  • Self esteem
  • Friendships
  • Relationships
  • Schools and bullying
  • Safety in the community
  • Parents & family relations
  • HIV & sexual health
  • Alcohol and drug use
  • Legislation
  • Life Skills

SPACE operates using the principles of 'peer education.' This involves same-sex attracted youth helping, supporting and informing other same-sex attracted youth. Using this approach, participants use common knowledge and experiences to connect with and support each other.

Many young LGBT people live happy and healthy lives, research shows that the bullying, discrimination and social isolation that some same-sex attracted young people experience can make them more likely than their heterosexual counterparts to practice unsafe sex, start using drugs, self harm or attempt suicide.

 Face 2 Face

Support service that offers Face-to-Face help and support for young Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans people and those questioning their sexuality aged between 13 and 21. For many young people who are questioning their sexual orientation and/or gender identity, there can be a lot of fear and stigma .
