SPACE operates using the principles of 'peer education.' This involves same-sex attracted youth helping, supporting and informing other same-sex attracted youth. Using this approach, participants use common knowledge and experiences to connect with and support each other.
Many young LGBT people live happy and healthy lives, research shows that the bullying, discrimination and social isolation that some same-sex attracted young people experience can make them more likely than their heterosexual counterparts to practice unsafe sex, start using drugs, self harm or attempt suicide.
